Lynne Hiriak - Designer, CEO and Founder MLH
Born in Seoul, Korea, knitwear designer Lynne Hiriak spent her childhood in Southeastern Pennsylvania with her adopted family. After realizing the unlikelihood of becoming a principal ballerina, but having discovered her talent for drawing, Hiriak forfeited her notions of a career in dance and turned her attention to sketching.
Hiriak's mother encouraged her passion for illustration, enrolling her in private art courses during high school. After graduating Salutatorian of her high school class, Lynne headed to New York City's Fashion Institute of Technology. Her first cut and sew project, a black jersey racer-back dress, revealed her true calling. Since that first creation, the designer has relentlessly honed the craft of knitwear.
Lynne made her professional foray into knitwear as a designer at Polo Jeans Company Ralph Lauren. From there she seized coveted opportunities at esteemed companies such as Nautica, Michael Kors and Derek Lam. Under the tutelage of industry established talents such as John Varvatos, Michael Kors and Derek Lam, Hiriak continued to develop her technical skills, employ her creativity and sharpen her knitwear talent in both mens and womenswear.
Armed with a diverse resume, technical expertise and a yearning for pushing and expanding knitwear limitations, Hiriak ventured out to build a design consulting business whose clients would include well respected global brands and collection level designers. As a natural extension to her business, Hiriak set out to satisfy her desire to explore the craft of knitwear to it's limitless potential. It was then that she founded Capricorn Design Ltd., an innovative apparel company with it's central focus on knitwear specific design consulting, along with building a healthy private label business, and creating it's own knit specific brands.
Capricorn Design Ltd. Launched in-house knitwear brand MLH, a contemporary designer women's collection that explores color and print in novelty fine jersey dresses and tops for Spring '08. She also launched her other brand CARDIGAN for fall '08.
